Lithuanian Premier Resigns
Paluckas stepped down as prime minister and leader of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP), while the LSDP's board is anticipated to hold a vote regarding his resignation during the day.
This decision came after the Democrats "For Lithuania" party announced their intention to leave the ruling coalition if Paluckas continued to serve as prime minister.
The pressure on Paluckas intensified when President Gitanas Nauseda, last week, gave him a two-week deadline to address allegations concerning his previous business dealings and supposed ethical violations publicly or to contemplate stepping down.
President Nauseda additionally urged Paluckas to request a vote of confidence in parliament to gauge his political backing.
