China, Japan Commemorate WWII Anniversary with Document Donation
The commemorative event, organized by the Chinese Consulate General in Nagoya, gathered more than 140 attendees from both nations.
Zhao Baogang, minister counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Japan, emphasized in his speech China’s dedication to collaborating with peace-loving Japanese individuals to resolutely reject any efforts to distort, whitewash, or deny the history of aggression.
He stressed the collective duty to uphold historical truth and moral responsibility, aiming to foster long-lasting peace between the two countries.
Yang Xian, Chinese Consul General in Nagoya, emphasized China’s crucial role in securing the Allied victory in the World Anti-Fascist War. He conveyed China’s willingness to work alongside all segments of Japanese society to honor history, draw lessons from it, and together build a promising future for Sino-Japanese relations.
Isao Matsuda, a member of Japan’s House of Representatives, echoed similar sentiments, stressing the value of historical lessons in constructing a peaceful tomorrow and expressing a strong commitment to deepening Japan-China ties.
Noriyuki Kawamura, president of the Tokai Japan-China Relations Society, remarked that recognizing wartime history is essential to avoiding future conflicts.
A key moment of the gathering was the formal donation of historical artifacts by Satoshi Daito, abbot of Enkoji Temple in Aichi Prefecture, to the Chinese representatives. The materials included rare photographs documenting Japan's invasion of China
Daito, who has spent nearly 20 years amassing these historical documents, affirmed that such records are vital in uncovering historical truths, calling them a first step toward peace.
