Modi states India-China relations have made ‘steady progress’
During Wang’s three-day visit, discussions with India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval focused on moving past a previously “difficult period” in bilateral relations. Both countries agreed on measures to improve border management, resume direct flights, reopen border trade, and support each other’s upcoming BRICS presidencies in 2026 and 2027.
Wang also delivered an invitation from President Xi Jinping for Modi to attend the SCO Summit in Tianjin on August 31. Modi expressed his eagerness to meet Xi and reiterated support for China’s presidency in the Eurasian grouping. The visit reflects ongoing efforts to restore relations following the 2020 border clash, with recent rounds of military and diplomatic talks easing trade and investment restrictions, including adjustments made in July after Covid-era limitations.
