Trump seeks heaven out of resolving Russia-Ukraine war
In a Tuesday phone interview with a news agency, Trump discussed recent Washington talks involving Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky, several European leaders, and NATO and European Commission officials. The meetings followed his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last week, aimed at facilitating direct negotiations between the warring sides.
“If I can save 7,000 people a week from being killed… I want to try to get to heaven, if possible,” Trump said, adding that he feels “at the bottom of the totem pole” in terms of his personal standing. He emphasized that helping end the Ukraine war could be a factor in his moral reckoning.
Describing the Ukraine conflict as “the toughest” of seven wars he claims to have helped resolve during his political career, Trump stressed his goal of arranging a meeting between Putin and Zelensky while urging the Ukrainian leader to show “more flexibility.”
Trump has also highlighted his diplomatic achievements, suggesting they merit recognition such as a Nobel Peace Prize. This month, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev endorsed Trump for the award, citing his role in mediating the long-running dispute between their countries.
