Officers Die from Assaults on Patrol Units in Iran

(MENAFN) No fewer than five law enforcement officers lost their lives during dual strikes on patrol units in southeastern Iran on Friday, according to state media accounts.

These incidents occurred on the Khash-Iranshahr roadway within the Sistan and Baluchestan province, as reported by a state-controlled outlet, referencing the police's public information division.

Reports indicate that the assailants escaped following the ambush, and security forces have since initiated a pursuit operation.

Iranshahr, a municipality situated in the border province of Sistan and Baluchestan, is located 337 kilometers (209 miles) from Zahedan, the region’s administrative hub.

No organization has officially taken accountability for the ambush, though sources have implied that it might be linked to the "Jaish-e-Adl" insurgent faction, which has previously launched numerous assaults on law enforcement convoys in the region.

Home to an estimated 4 million residents, the province has long faced instability due to the activities of several extremist organizations, particularly "Jaish-e-Adl."

Just last month, an assault targeting a courthouse in Zahedan claimed the lives of at least six individuals and left 22 others wounded, among them women and children.

The area, which shares a boundary with Pakistan, has seen repeated attacks on police installations over recent years, often leading to significant loss of life.
