Russia Signals Possible Lavrov-Rubio Meeting

(MENAFN) Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova indicated on Monday that a meeting between Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio could take place during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

"A schedule of bilateral meetings between the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry is being worked out. I would not like to get ahead of myself, but at the same time I do not want to disappoint you," Zakharova told media when asked about the possibility of a Lavrov-Rubio encounter.

President Vladimir Putin has designated Lavrov as the leader of Russia’s delegation for the UN event. The General Debate is scheduled from September 23 to 27, with an additional session on September 29.

Meanwhile, the United States, under President Donald Trump’s administration, has taken a leading role in efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has lasted over three years.
