Russia Says It Captured Key Village in Zaporizhzhia
In a statement released Monday, Russia’s Defense Ministry announced its troops had seized control of the village of Olhivske, located roughly 21 kilometers (13 miles) east of Huliaipole, a strategic flashpoint in the ongoing battles between Ukrainian and Russian forces.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s General Staff countered with a different account earlier in the day, asserting that its military had repelled a Russian attack near Poltavka — a village situated about four kilometers (2.5 miles) southwest of Olhivske.
Ukrainian officials have not yet responded publicly to Russia’s claim. Due to the continued hostilities in the area, independent verification of battlefield developments remains challenging.
