Trump Calls on House Republicans to Release Epstein Files
Epstein died in a Manhattan detention facility in 2019 awaiting prosecution on sex trafficking allegations and operating an underage exploitation network. His extensive relationships with powerful elites across the US and internationally continue generating shockwaves in Washington, where both political parties have accused one another of manipulating the scandal for partisan advantage.
A congressional panel unveiled 20,000 Epstein-related documents last week, prompting certain Democrats to spotlight Trump's previous association with the convicted sex criminal. They referenced correspondence in which Epstein allegedly claimed Trump "knew about the girls."
Trump responded by directing an investigation into Epstein's connections to prominent Democrats, including Bill Clinton, and denounced his adversaries for weaponizing what he termed the "Epstein Hoax" for political objectives.
"House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide," Trump declared in a Truth Social post Monday. He then charged Democrats with inflating the controversy to divert public attention from substantive policy matters and his administration's achievements. "The House Oversight Committee can have whatever they are legally entitled to, I DON'T CARE!" the president added.
Throughout his campaign, Trump vowed to declassify the Epstein documentation and signed an executive directive to that effect shortly after inauguration. In February, US Attorney General Pam Bondi announced release of the "first phase" of materials. However, critical evidence—including flight manifests, client rosters, and contact databases—has remained sealed, intensifying speculation about potential implicated individuals.
This secrecy has drawn fire from prominent Trump allies, including Elon Musk. In a subsequently deleted message, the billionaire even suggested Trump's name appeared in the classified Epstein files, implying this represents the authentic reason they remain unreleased.
