Provided by AGPSpeaking during a briefing in Brussels, Commission spokesperson Anouar El Anouni said the EU has consistently opposed unilateral actions that expand Israeli presence in occupied Palestinian territories.
According to reports, he stressed that settlement construction, related settler violence, property demolitions, forced transfers, and evictions must all be stopped without delay.
"Settlements, settlement constructions, settler violence, demolitions, force transfers, evictions of Palestinians must stop," he said in response to a question from Anadolu.
El Anouni reiterated that the EU considers Israeli settlement activity in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, to be illegal under international law, referencing the 2024 advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice.
He added that Israel should reverse its current policies, comply with international legal obligations, and ensure protection for Palestinians living under occupation.
According to reports, the European Commission has already put forward potential policy responses to the situation, but progress has been slowed due to disagreements among EU member states within the Council.
