Germany Condemns Israeli Strikes in Southern Lebanon
(MENAFN) Germany on Saturday voiced deep concern over Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon that killed civilians and medical personnel, calling for full respect of international humanitarian law as hostilities continue.
A spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry said Berlin is “deeply worried about reports of attacks killing medical personnel” and urged all parties to adhere to international law and protect healthcare workers during conflict.
The statement also called on all sides to uphold the ceasefire and implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
According to Lebanese authorities, Israeli strikes on Friday killed at least 15 people, including six paramedics. Additional attacks on Saturday near Hiram Hospital in the Tyre district injured at least 25 medical, nursing, and administrative staff members.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported widespread damage to medical infrastructure, noting that more than a dozen hospitals have been affected since the escalation of hostilities began in March.
Despite a US-brokered ceasefire that took effect in April and was later extended into early July, officials say Israeli strikes have continued across southern Lebanon, causing extensive casualties and displacement.
Lebanese authorities estimate that over 3,000 people have been killed, thousands more wounded, and more than 1.6 million displaced in the past three months of ongoing violence.
