Poland Advances Air Power

(MENAFN) Poland has achieved a significant step in its military modernization efforts following the delivery of its first F-35A fighter aircraft on Friday. The development highlights Warsaw’s ongoing strategic commitment to the United States as its principal security ally.

With this deployment, Poland becomes the first NATO member located on the alliance’s eastern flank to operate the F-35, moving ahead of several neighboring countries in adopting advanced fifth-generation combat aircraft.

Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz underscored both the symbolic and political importance of the delivery in a post on the US social media platform X, saying that Poland is entering “a new era” of air capabilities. He emphasized that the achievement reflects years of sustained investment not only in equipment, but also in infrastructure development, pilot training, and overall operational readiness.

The Ministry of National Defence also noted that Polish air crews and ground support personnel have already undergone training in the United States. It added that the arrival of the aircraft marks the beginning of full operational integration rather than its conclusion.

Poland’s acquisition covers 32 F-35A jets under an agreement signed with Washington in January 2020, valued at approximately $4.6 billion and including training and logistical support. The aircraft will carry the Polish designation "Husarz."

According to Defence24, the first three jets are scheduled to arrive this month, with additional deliveries expected over the coming years. The report also indicated that initial operational capability is anticipated before the end of the decade.
