Germany's Industrial Output Rises 0.4 Percent in April
Construction led the monthly advance, posting a robust 2.4% increase in output. The chemical industry and fabricated metal products manufacturing also contributed to the uptick, rising 2.1% and 1.6% respectively.
The automotive sector, however, bucked the trend — recording a steep 4.7% decline over the same period, dragging on the broader industrial picture.
Energy-intensive industrial branches posted a 1% monthly gain in April compared to March, while energy production outside of industry nudged up 0.2%.
Despite the monthly improvement, the longer-term trajectory remains concerning: industrial output contracted 0.5% on an annual basis, underlining the structural headwinds still facing Europe's largest economy.
