US Forces Report High Safety Rate for Strait of Hormuz Shipping
"In recent months, over 95% of ships navigating the Strait of Hormuz have sailed through safely despite the IRGC's unwarranted aggression," the US Central Command said in a statement.
US forces have also helped Gulf countries export more than 1.5 billion barrels of crude oil since the summer, marking a significant achievement in efforts to maintain regional energy shipments, according to the command.
"We continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with our Gulf partners and the shipping industry," CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper said while visiting the strategic waterway.
Over the past six months, American personnel have assisted more than 3,000 commercial vessels navigating the critical maritime corridor. These efforts increased after US forces cleared naval mines allegedly deployed by the IRGC along international shipping routes, according to military officials.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a major source of tension in the war involving Iran, which began in late February after joint strikes by the United States and Israel. Although a ceasefire and a memorandum intended to pave the way for a comprehensive peace agreement have been reached, the conflict has yet to be resolved.
